The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applications for the position of Court Certified Interpreter in the Communications and Marketing Department. The Court Certified Interpreter assists in the development and coordination of public information activities to create a positive public perception of the City of Aurora. The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Responsible for administrative and clerical duties; Interpret and translate into Spanish during court proceedings, hearings, signs, and interview related events required by the City of Aurora; Sight interprets Spanish or English documents as required during proceedings, hearings, interviews, signs, or other court-related events; Translates from English into specified foreign language, oral communication, official forms, letters, documents, notices, signs, correspondence, and other court-related documents; Attend various city events/programs to interpret; Assist with website content management and translation; Assist with the development and maintenance of the master calendar of events for use on the website, mailings, and other communication tools used to market the City; Assist with posting and monitoring social media accounts; Maintain accurate records of interpreting and translating activities; Effectively and efficiently, perform simultaneous or consecutive interpretation for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) individuals throughout the entirety of court proceedings; Act in accordance with Language Access Policy and Code of Interpreter Ethics of the Illinois Supreme Court; Review the City website for outdated information on a regular basis; Perform other duties as assigned. The position also requires a high school diploma. Associate degree in a related field preferred. At least two (2) years’ experience in public relations, marketing, communications, public affairs, or a related field. At least two (2) years’ experience as a court interpreter. Certified or Registered status on the Illinois Supreme Court Language Interpreter Registry or other State Court Interpreter Registry as recognized by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts (AOIC), preferred. Fluent in English and Spanish, extensive knowledge of legal terminology and court proceedings, as well as cultural dialect. Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to physical, drug screen, and background check. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Starting hourly pay is $31.84/hr, depending on experience and qualifications.
